Privacy
DigiVona collects as little as possible. Its own code sets no cookies on public pages and runs no analytics script.
What is stored, where, and for how long
| Data | Where | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your theme, the motion setting and saved stories | Only in your browser's local storage; never sent to DigiVona | Until you clear it | You asked for them; strictly functional |
| Reading counts | One total of views and clicks per story and day; nothing that identifies you | 400 days | Most read lists; no personal data |
| Server logs, including IP addresses | DigiVona's server | 14 days | Security and fixing errors (legitimate interest) |
| Contact messages | DigiVona's database; your IP address only as a salted hash | 180 days after we handled the message | Answering you (legitimate interest) |
| Newsletter address | DigiVona's database and the email service Brevo, which sends the daily brief for us under a data processing agreement; see The daily brief | Until you unsubscribe, plus 30 days; an address that is never confirmed, 7 days | Your consent, confirmed by email |
| Accounts of DigiVona's editors | DigiVona's database (name, email address, hashed password, sign-in times); the admin session cookie, the only cookie DigiVona sets | While the account is active | Running the newsroom (contract and legitimate interest) |
| Advertising cookies | Set by Google AdSense and Google's consent tool on pages with ads; see Advertising | As in Google's policy | Your consent in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland |
| Your IP address seen by publishers | Your browser loads story images directly from the publishers' servers; see Images from publishers | Not stored by DigiVona | Showing the publisher's image |
Images from publishers
Story images are loaded by your browser directly from the publishers' servers. Those servers see your IP address, as with any web request; DigiVona tells your browser not to send them the address of the DigiVona page you are reading.
The daily brief
- When you sign up, DigiVona stores your email address and sends one confirmation email. Nothing more is sent until you confirm with the button on the page the email links to.
- Every brief has a one-click unsubscribe link, and email programs can unsubscribe you from their own menu. After you unsubscribe, the address is deleted within 30 days.
- Emails go out through Brevo. Brevo records delivery and, as part of its service, whether an email was opened and which links were clicked; DigiVona does not use that information to profile you.
Advertising
DigiVona covers its costs with ads from Google AdSense. Ads appear only on the homepage, on the first page of each category and in DigiVona Originals, each marked "Advertisement" or "Sponsored". All other pages carry no ads and load no advertising code, and while ads are switched off no page loads it.
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google's certified consent tool asks for your choice before any advertising cookie is set. If you do not consent, Google shows non-personalised or limited ads instead.
- Elsewhere, Google may use cookies to show ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites.
- Cookies you may see on pages with ads include
__gads,__gpiand__eoi(AdSense: ad delivery, frequency and fraud prevention) andFCCDCF(Google's consent tool: your choices). Google decides their names and lifetimes; they can change. - In those regions you can change your choice with "Privacy choices" at the bottom of any page with ads. Anywhere, you can clear this site's cookies in your browser at any time.
- Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can turn off personalised ads in Google's My Ad Center.
DigiVona itself receives only totals from Google (for example impressions and earnings), never anything that identifies you.
Alerts
Operational alerts sent to the DigiVona team never contain your name, email address or message.
Your rights
You can ask what DigiVona holds about you, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted, through the contact form or at contact@digivona.com. Saved stories and settings are in your browser only; clearing your browser's site data removes them. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you may also complain to your data protection authority.
